Week 3, I know, Boring Subject

Hello again!!

Another Week at the MTC

Let me tell ya, when people say that mission time is weird, they weren’t kidding. The first few days of MTC felt like they would never end, and now it is so hard to believe that I will be leaving for Washington in… ahhh, less than 3 days! I’m ready but also terrified. I was sitting in church on Sunday and thought to myself, “Next sunday, I will be some ward’s missionary…”, ya I’m not too sure what to think about that.

Classes are going great! We’re all getting tired of role-play, but it is one of the things that is the most helpful, so I guess we’ll endure it.

Abbie Brockbank, who’s practically a cousin, came in this week and that has seriously been such a blessing for both of us! It’s so nice to get a hug from someone familiar, and just have family around.

And I forgot to mention it last week, but so I can be an official MTC missionary, I thought I’d mention something about the food. Ya know, it’s not as bad as I was anticipating. Definitely a hit or miss, but I am so excited to get out into the field and have real food. Most of us sister’s are currently craving avocados.

We had to shift around our companionships a bit to just try to help one of the sisters. So I’m back to my original companionship with just Sister Pounders. It’s been a big adjustment not having Sister Tolley, but it’s going good.

Guys, I seriously have the best district ever. You don’t even know how much they all mean to me. The elders have been so supportive to all of us sisters and like big brothers throughout some of the really rough patches of this week. I received a priesthood blessing from our district leader, Elder Jensen, to just help give me some extra strength and endurance, and let me tell ya, it is so comforting to hear exactly what God wants you to hear. The peace that came from the blessing honestly felt like a little miracle.

We have fun too!

So funny story, last pday us sisters went and got our hair trimmed. In the beginning Sister Prince cut off 2 inches, just a trim right, then later that day she randomly says “Should I chop my hair?”. We all start dying laughing at her spontaneity, but lo and behold 30 minutes later all of us are crammed in the bathroom and Sister Tolley is chopping Sister Prince’s hair. But she was in good hands cause Sis. Tolley went to cosmetology school. She didn’t graduate, but she didn’t get kicked out either so I still deem them safe hands. We had to resume the haircut that evening in our dorm, at the same time that Sister Oscarson (yes, the former Young Womens General President) came and did room checks. As soon as she saw what was happening, she sweetly says “You’re not supposed to cut eachother’s hair”, don’t worry we reassured her about the safe hands and she just laughed. And just so none of you are concerned, her haircut turned out SO cute!

The other night we went and played volleyball as a district, and I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time! I am AWFUL at volleyball, my college besties can attest to that, but it was seriously so much fun! I love bonding as a district both when we’re having fun and having deep discussions. I love them all so much!

Little advice from Sister Wanlass

DON’T. PRAY. FOR. PATIENCE. Just don’t do it. Ok I’m totally kidding… kind of. People have always warned me about praying for patience. And I have to say, I definitely regretted praying for it for a moment, but now, I am so grateful that I did and I am definitely a better person because of it. I have now learned that when you pray for patience, God will give you an opportunity to exercise the patience you already possess. And you can either let that opportunity break you or build you.

It’s also the same thing with charity. In Brother Sumsions class he gave us some advice to think of an attribute of Christ to work on, and I felt that I needed to work on charity, shouldn’t seem risky, right? Ya that’s what I thought too. Well funny thing, Heavenly Father gave me many opportunities to just exercise the pure love of Christ. I just needed to let go of all understanding and just trust God’s plan and love.

Well I can say with confidence, I am growing everybody! Not just in the gospel, or just as a missionary, but as a person! I am learning that communication is key to any relationship, trios are not easy but definitely give you a chance to grow and are also sometimes necessary for survival, charity and patience are some of the most important attributes to acquire, and crying in front of people really is ok.

My brain is tired so I’m gonna call that my spiritual thought as well.

I love you all so so much! Remember to pray and work on building a relationship with Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost, because they just make life better!

Love, Sister Wanlass
